Principal's Message
A message from Mrs. Sandra Sims-Foster

Cooper’s Poynt Professional Development School (PDS) is a preK-8 family school serving the children of North Camden. Working in partnership with Rowan University of New Jersey, the school is striving to create a learning community committed to lifelong learning and to facilitate higher levels of learning by educating and empowering all children. As a learning community we are committed to the success of our students supporting their academic and social growth. This entails:

  • Engaging perspective teachers in activities that will help to prepare them for the urban teaching experience.
  • Providing experienced teachers with opportunities for renewal and inquiry into innovative and effective research-based instructional practices.
  • Involving parents and community members as learning partners in the educational process.

  • All students have access to a rigorous curriculum. Our school is divided into smaller learning academies. The Creative Learning Academy is home to grades Pre-K to 2 where students receive intensive instruction in early literacy and math in an interdisciplinary environment. The Rising Star Academy serves students in grades three through six. Students are challenged to grow in a learning environment which is hands on and integrated. The Middle School Preparatory Academy (grade seven and eight) supports students, helping them to master the knowledge and skills they will need to succeed in high school. The Visual and Performing Arts Academy provides instruction in art, dance, and vocal and instrumental music, as well as a music theater workshop. Student performances and showcases are held throughout the school year to celebrate student achievement. In the technology training room teachers are trained to integrate the curriculum through the use of technology. The two technology labs students are receiving instruction to prepare them to function in this technological world.

Our Parents’ Center and the Parent Advisory Council are working collaboratively to offer parents and guardians workshops, informational meeting, and volunteer opportunities throughout the learning community. Strengthening the home-school partnership is an important goal of the Cooper’s Poynt learning community.
I look forward to welcoming you to Cooper’s Poynt PDS. Together we will work to improve teaching and learning for every child.
